At the event of the maiden inspection for Affordable Housing and Management Development Initiative in Gwagwalada, Abuja on Monday. The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Hon. Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, stated that the Federal Gov’t is to provide more adequate and affordable housing for about 2000 family units in Abuja, the Federal Capital Terrritory.

The Minister added that Nigeria’s population set at about 200 million is projected to reach about 400 million by 2050 and they will need affordable houses to occupy. Furthermore, he stated that about half of the population figure is dwelling in the urban centres adding that it is the responsibility of any government, with pointers to the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration to ensure that affordable houses are provided. He further mentioned that his visit at the site of the project was deliberate and serve as a template to be replicated nationwide in his drive to see how the feat can be achieved.

On a tour with the Head of Public Private Partnership of the Ministry, Abimbola Asein, stated that the Affordable Housing Development and Management Initiative was sitting on 113 hectares of land which will serve to provide Nigerians with affordable housing, targeted especially to the low and middle income earners. Arch Asein furthermore stated that, the initiative was a public, private partnership and hinted that the first phase has already commenced in December 2021 to put infrastructure in place, with drainages and roads which is 25% completed at the time and hoped the houses provided will be affordable to all Nigerians.
