The regime of Nyesom Wike hit the ground running on the minister’s appointment to head the Federal Capital Territory. They were in the news as soon as the appointments were announced. And projects are coming through… Let’s talk about a few projects to expect ready by June 2024.
To start the Minister’s run in office, the Ministry announced a plan to replace the surface on about 135 roads within Garki, Wuse, Gwarimpa, and Maitama Districts, according to Voice of Nigeria. Essentially, they are making these roads brand new again.
Some of the Projects
There are more than 130 roads to undergo these minor works, as Premium Times recorded.
Some are expected in 6 months, and some by June 2024 like:
B6, B12, and Circle road in Central Area.
And then Federal Secretariat was handed to Julius Berger to rehabilitate.
Arterial Road N20, running from Northern Parkway to ONEX which the Ministry has contracted to Gilmor Engineering.
There is also Southern Parkway, running from Christian Centre (S8/9) to Ring Road 1, handled by CGC, as documented by Nairametrics.
Gains To Abuja
The benefits of these major road projects are many. From easing the worrisome traffic congestion in Abuja, to reducing incidents of road accidents, to easing up logistics for economic activities in the capital city, to facilitating emergency healthcare services, to restoring the befitting ambience of the FCT, and so much more.
But even more importantly, the better Abuja roads, the more it is attractive to residents. Local businesses benefit from this, the Government receives raised Revenue, everyone goes home happy.
